|Project Description||Many different types of wound dressings are now available on the market, allowing the physician to handle all aspects of wound care. But still, there is no superior product that treats chronic wounds such as venous leg ulcers, diabetic wounds and pressure ulcers, which often do not heal completely.
Significant progress in the development of wound coverings, which has been observed in the world over the past 15 years, has made it possible not only to facilitate the provision of first aid to victims with thermal skin injuries, but also to increase the effectiveness of burn treatment and improve clinical results. This is largely due to the introduction of hydrogels in medicine and the creation of hydrogel dressings for the treatment of wounds of various etiologies. Hydrogels help keep the wound moist. At the same time, they absorb excess fluid and thereby maintain the necessary water balance for recovery processes.
Today, hydrogel dressings produced in Denmark, South Africa, Russia, and the USA are presented on the market in Kazakhstan. But the only domestic manufacturer of hydrogel dressings is the Institute of Nuclear Physics RSE (AQUA DRESS). The production volume is 10,000 units per year; the sale is carried out through a retail pharmacy network. However, the availability of domestically produced products is currently very low.
Within the framework of the program “Development of nuclear physics methods and technologies for innovative modernization of the economy of Kazakhstan ” (2018 – 2022), the technology for the production of a sterile hydrogel dressing AQUA DRESS® containing silver nitrate, a new composite material with bactericidal properties, was developed.
The works planned for implementation under the project will make it possible to bring the existing site and production conditions in line with the requirements of international and national (state) regulatory documents in the field of production of medical devices, to certify the quality management system for compliance with the requirements of State Standard ISO 13485 “Medical devices. Quality management systems. System requirements for regulatory purposes” and relevant national (state) or international standards. This will significantly improve the quality, production volumes, expand the range, create conditions for the sale of products abroad, as well as in the domestic market through public procurement.
