| Project Description | The development of Kazakhstan’s export potential is the basis for the sustainable development of the country’s agro-industrial complex. Spring wheat is considered the main export crop of the country. Kazakhstan ranks tenth in terms of grain exports on the world market. Every year, the volume of Kazakh grain exports to the world market varies greatly from 7.0 to 10.0 million tons. Thus, according to the forecasts of the World Grain Council, in the 2022/23 marketing year it is planned to export about 10,0 million tons of grain, whereas in the 2021/22 marketing year this figure was 8.4 million tons. Over the past 5 years, there has been a decrease in the gross harvest of wheat grain from 14.8 million tons in 2017 to 11.8 million tons in 2021, while the yield of this crop decreased from 12.4 c/ha to 9.3 c/ha. The main wheat production is located in Northern Kazakhstan, where 80% of the total sown area of wheat is concentrated. One of the reasons for the decrease in gross fees and grain yields is the low availability of elite seeds for agricultural producers. Currently, the share of elite spring wheat seeds is about 7%, and in Russia and Belarus – more than 20%.
To solve these problems, it is necessary to introduce into production new varieties of spring wheat adapted to the conditions of the region, as well as to saturate the market with domestic seeds of high reproductions due to state incentives for producers of original seeds. |
