NATIONAL COORDINATION CENTER FOR HORIZON EUROPE
In April 2023, the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan designated the Joint-Stock company “Science Fund” as the National Coordination Center (NCC) for the European Union’s Framework Programs (EU FP) on science and innovationin Kazakhstan (Order No. 62-nzh dated April 27, 2023).
Horizon Europe is the Ninth Framework Program of the European Union, serving as a key funding instrument for scientific research and innovation. The program has a budget of €95.5 billion for the period from 2021 to 2027.
Workshop on Exploration and Extraction Technologies for Critical Metals
The National Coordination Center for Horizon Europe in Kazakhstan, represented by the “Science Fund” JSC, held its first brainstorming workshop on September 5, 2023, at the Graduate School of Public Policy of Nazarbayev University. The workshop focused on discussing and potentially participating in the following project proposals under the Horizon Europe program:
- Accounting for additional inspection requirements in raw material supply chains;
- Exploration of critical raw materials in deep underground deposits;
- Technologies for the extraction and processing of critical raw materials.
Target audience: The seminar gathered representatives from universities, research institutes, industrial and business organizations, including small and medium enterprises and startups, as well as other stakeholders in the field of technology exploration, extraction, and processing of critical raw materials.
Workshop objectives: The workshop was organized to create a platform for potential participants to present themselves, their experience, and their interests in the field of technology exploration and extraction of critical metals, as well as to develop robust and effective project proposals for the Horizon Europe program.
Key outcomes: The workshop successfully achieved its goals by creating a platform for discussing and developing project proposals in the area of sustainable natural resource management. Participants also highlighted the event’s high value for establishing partnerships and exchanging knowledge necessary for successful participation in the Horizon Europe program.
